McCloud, As an ex-zookeeper, I can tell you that it's actually pretty common for keepers to give their animals 'cute' or (pop)cultural names. It's just the way. I remembered working with a big, male tiger, who was born in 1984, when Garfield was a HUGE craze. The keepers named him Garfield, because he was really lazy and laid-back. I also worked with a pair of male jaguar brothers, who were very gentle, but didn't seem to be all that intelligent. They would do anything for an egg! They wound up being named Kronk and Skooch. Kind silly for jaguars, but it kind of fit their purrsonalities. I was kind of hoping for a couple of wacky bobcats named Cheech & Chong, but I don't think that's all that likely. :P |

And remember, I wasn't the one who named him Napoleon. It was those darned circus folk. ![]() I'd have named him Uncle Rico. --Last edited by John on 2007-07-20 13:33:09 --

Holy buckets....both those ligers are gigantic! (Meaning the real life liger in the picture and Napoleon in the comic strip) lol! sandusky looked totally shocked. i was a little shocked too. |

Well, Ligers are really interessting. Apparently it is possible that this happens in Nature if you compare the Livingspace of Lions and Tigers, or it was. There is a region in north africa where the hapitats overlap. But due the expansion of mankind that's no longer the case. However it's most unlikly that a Tiger and a Lion will mate in the wild.

I know that there are/were regions in India where the Bengal Tiger and Asiatic Lion both live. But, yes, it's doubtful that there would be any interaction in the wild. The companionship in captivity is always nice, just so long as there's no hanky panky going on. ![]() And welcome aboard, LordGrey!

I thought that lions and tigers were found only in Kenya. ;-) (reference to a very silly flash cartoon) --Last edited by yuoofox on 2007-07-20 23:28:06 -- |

I seem to have messed up my auto-update thingamajig on ComicGenesis. Now, I'm waiting in the queue for an update. In the meantime, here's what should be on the main page right now. This is the second page of my exclusive comic strip. I'll be previewing three pages in all. ![]()

I love the way Dusker's still got faint cub-spots in that one ![]()

I'll happily buy one as well. This is one strip I want to collect. Haven't felt that way about one since 'Bloom County.' FWIW, I've played with a cougar cub or two. At that age, they're mostly gray with black spots. Their fur lightens up, and the spots disappear, pretty quick. Keep the peace(es).

Re: today's strip: I'm really interested to see where John goes after today's strip. Does he keep it really light, or is it time for a rude awakening for our Dusker? Gosh, this forum could turn into one of those "look at the way he's holding his left hand - it has to mean...." like some of the other comic forums.

Aww... they don't have the Wii in the sanctuary? I'm sure one of the kats could at least snag a DS from an unsuspecting child. ![]()
