Hey, John,

Hypothetical question: If you had unlimited resources with which to make the strip into an animated movie, who would you pick for voice actors for your various characters?

Inquiring minds (who really don't want to drive to Shelton tomorrow) would love to know!

Thanks much.

I think this topic has been visited on a couple of occasions.  I'm always happy to rev it back up, though, as I love to "dream the impossible dream" that Sandusky will one day become an animated movie or TV show.

There are a few actors I've considered for Sandusky.  Michael Keaton is one.  I loved the range of his acting in Multiplicity.  I won't, however, revive the "who was the best Batman" debate.  Matt Damon is another possibility I've thought of.  I'm not really sure why.

For Bunker, I'd have possibly said Jason Lee (Earl from My Name Is Earl).  However, he is the new voice of Underdog.  Had I ended up with Jason Lee, I would have considered "Randy" (also from Earl) for Sandusky's voice.  I wouldn't want him to be played quite so dumb, but the naivete would have fit quite well.

Other voices that have passed through my head are Michael J. Fox, Zach Braff, and Rainn Wilson for Bunker, and Robin Williams, Matthew Perry, and John Krasinski for Sandusky.

But to be perfectly honest, they should all just be voiced by me, because that's who they all sound like in my head.

I'd love to hear everyone else's thoughts.

Now you're just going to have to upload an audio sample of what a Sandusky comic sounds like using your own voice

I like Micheal J. Fox as Sandusky, a voice that is equal parts whimsical and casual--of course, I have problems hearing individual voices because when voice and character match well, you only hear 'character'.

And of course, you can use the old standbys: Frank Welker, Jim Cummings, Alan Oppenheimer and other stalwarts of the voice acting field

I'd probably go more along these lines to tell you the truth.  Either that, or I'd get some lesser known actors to voice the parts.  When all of the sequels start coming out you don't want to be stuck trying to negotiate new contracts with the A-list actors.  Shrek has done it well, of course, but there are plenty of others who haven't been as successful.

Speaking of Shrek, Mike Myers would be another possible voice.  I definitely would want to keep Sandusky more in the vocal range of a Ferris Simba, as opposed to a Darth Mufasa.

While most of the characters would have American-sounding voices, I think Mellencamp could do well with a robust British accent, maybe by Patrick Stewart or Sean Connery.

Mellencamp definitely has more of a "regal" quality to him.  Either of those voices would fit him well.

As for Kashmir, I would think Cary Elwes' voice would fit appropriately.  Kashmir seems to have that Robin Hood/Princess Bride feel to him.  He's definitely good with the ladies, and he'd probably be the best swordfighter of the entire cast.  ;) Elwes' is always the voice in my head when I'm writing for Kashmir.  Everyone else is my own voice.

And then there are those other voices in my head.  They're the ones that give me the ideas in the first place.

He did make a good Sheriff of Nottingham.  I also enjoyed Roger Rees as the Sheriff of "Rottingham".

What about the other characters (Scott, Ashley, Sierra, Goliath, etc.)?  Who could you see doing their voices?

Goliath doesn't talk, so I can do his voice.  ;)  I don't know if I can pin down voices for the rest of those guys.  Scott and Ashley would probably be your basic "every man" voices.  With an unlimited budget, I might as well go with Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan.  I've heard they work well together.  I think Sierra's voice would all depend on Bunker's voice.

Other male voices I enjoy and could probably find a spot for:  Hank Azaria, Dan Castellaneta, Gary Cole, Jim Cummings, John DiMaggio, Michael Clarke Duncan, Gilbert Gottfried, Nathan Lane, Christopher Lloyd, Seth MacFarlane, John O'Hurley, Frank Oz, Rob Paulsen, John Ratzenberger, Stephen Root, Ernie Sabella, Harry Shearer, Patrick Warburton, and Billy West.

I'd have to have some help on choosing female voices.  I'd have to go by process of elimination - just get rid of the ones I don't like. There aren't many females in Sandusky yet, but I'm sure more and more will pop up as we move along.

Now, the opposite question:

Which voice actors would be completely wrong for the Sandusky characters?

I don't recognise all of those names, but yeah, you're right.

Also, while we're enjoying our daydream, perhaps the Sandusky movie will become an international hit, and they'll come out with an Japanese anime of it.  Sandusku-san!

I don't recognize all of those names, either.  I do know Al Gore, though.  I believe he's some sort of a small time documentary film maker.  So, he does have a bit of a movie background.

He also invented the internet, I think.

Plus, he discovered ManBearPig, a creature who's half man, half bear, and half pig.  I'm cereal.

Well said  Let's see if I can't help...

Sandusky: Al Gore (com'on, if you can't get this one, then give up
Bunker: Madge Sinclair (the voice of Marge from the Simpsons)
Scott: Nancy Yeardley (Voice of Bart Simpson)
Mellencamp: Mike Tyson (high pitched, foul mouthed)
Kashmir: Larry the Cable Guy (Think of a hefty Chris Farley)
Dickens: James Earl Jones (Mufasa-dog!)

Julie Kavner is actually the voice of Marge Simpson.  I believe you're getting your matriarchs crossed.    Madge Sinclair has played queen to James Earl Jones' king in both Coming to America and The Lion King.  Sadly, Madge passed away in 1995 from leukemia.

Regardless, neither of them would have provided the best voice for Bunker.

OK, I came up with voices for most of the characters of Sandusky this weekend.  Like I said, most of them simply speak with my own voice in my head.  Kashmir, Mellencamp, and Dr. Rumack are the only ones who don't. Remember, this is completely without budget restraints.

Sandusky - Robin Williams
Bunker - Tom Hanks
Scott - John Krasinski (Jim from The Office)
Kashmir - Cary Elwes
Mellencamp - Patrick Stewart
Champ - John Ratzenberger (Pixar's "good luck charm")
Ashley - Meg Ryan (I've had a crush on her since Innerspace)
Sierra - Julia Louis-Dreyfus
Dr. Rumack - Leslie Neilsen (since I stole him from Airplane! anyway)
Dr. Barker - Sam Neill
Mrs. Havercamp - Tress MacNeille (various voices on The Simpsons)
Emily - Russi Taylor (also from The Simpsons)
Heather (from Dr. Rumack's office) - Tina Fey
Lyric - Cheryl Hines
Rhythm - Billy West (Futurama)
El Guapo - George Lopez
Dickens - Jason Alexander
Seibu - Kelsey Grammar
Javier - Antonio Banderas
Malaya - Mary Kate Olsen
Kalahari - Ashley Olsen
Larry (the king snake) - Wayne Brady (no, not Larry King)
Goliath - Goliath does not speak

The ones I think work best with their characters are Kashmir, Mellencamp, Lyric, Rhythm, and Dickens.

Other future voices who have yet to appear "on screen" but will be characters in the not too distant future...  ;)

Dana Carvey
Michael Clarke Duncan
John Goodman
Jeff Goldblum

Upon rereading I'm positively boggled as to how I of all people could have botched that one.  If I had been paying attention to what I was writing, I would have said Madge Sinclair (voice of Sarabi from The Lion King).

 That must be why...

But still, crossed matriarchs = teh bad.

I do like your list though That's quite extensive.
