Hey Bunks:

I don't know if you saw the news a week or so ago. There was a story about a family whose child was allegedly mauled and killed by a couple of huskies.

This caused a lot of angst from those of us who own and love huskies. It seems so unbelievable. No offense, Bunker, but huskies have their faults. They like to run away and dig and they can be very hard to obedience train. They're easily bored. Apparently they do like video games and soap operas.

But huskies aren't known to attack humans. The "pick the perfect dog" type websites all say they make terrible watchdogs because they trust all humans. They have a strong prey drive, but it's hard imagining a husky mistaking a baby for a rabbit. Huskies can be difficult dogs to own. I love mine and hope to always own at least one, but I don't recommend them to just anyone. Especially anyone without a vacuum cleaner.

After this happened, some people on the husky email lists mentioned that their homeowner's insurance policies are higher because huskies are on a "dangerous dog" list with pit bulls and the like.

I know that people will say that any dog can be dangerous and you shouldn't allow your child unsupervised around any dog, any breed. Who knows - maybe these dogs had been abused and were ticking time bombs. For all we know, these dogs may have been malamutes and not huskies at all - or even wolf crosses. The pictures I saw weren't clear enough to tell. But I'm still upset that huskies have "dangerous" as part of their reputation.

Another myth - they're not related to wolves any more closely than any other breed. There are husky/wolf crosses, but there are wolf crosses with other breeds too.

Ok, my husky love rant is over.

I think dogs like Dickens should be the banned ones.  They're annoying beyond belief!

I've got some Australian Shepherd in me, so I'm not 100% husky.  But, I could never imagine hurting a human.  In fact, Scott is pretty worried now that Sandusky is away.  I'll admit that I don't make a good watchdog.  In fact, I'd probably help a burglar to find whatever he was looking for if he'd play with me for just a bit.

Scott's already having enough financial difficulties, and I don't want him to have to pay more rent because I'm a "killer".  I honestly can't imagine a husky ever doing something like that.  It has to have had something to do with the way he was raised.  John's sister has a couple of American Staffordshire Terriers (pit bull-ish).  He says they're two of the sweetest pets in the world.  His sister even has two babies that play with them all the time.

Who was the first person to say, "See that chicken there?  I'm gonna eat the next thing that comes out of it's ass."

I can vouch for Dwartz' huskies. The only danger they pose is that if you're not careful, they might love you to death!

Huskies considered dangerous?  Say it isn't so!

Oh, all of that aggression and violence.

You should be more like Argh the Lion.

Sometimes, I like to give stuffed toys to the cats.

Other times, I really hate retrieving all the little pieces the next day.

I suppose it's how the little piece are contained. Hopefully they aren't in the litter box.

If they're in the litter box, that's easy. Just flush it out with everything else.

No, the lack of containment is where it gets tedious.

I agree. Anything with a Napoleonic Complex should be considered dangerous.

Yeah.  It's weird how people don't always realize that aggressive little dogs should be kept away from people.
